The Umzolozolo Lodge is situated in the spectacular Nambiti Conservancy, a 20,000 acre private game reserve in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. This malaria free area provides an unrivalled safari experience with the opportunity to view Africa's Big Five as well as cheetah and the critically endangered African wild dog.

Accommodation
The Lodge features 4 luxurious suites with panoramic views. Each suite is a freestanding unit, constructed with local materials and thatch to seamlessly blend into the environment.
The air conditioned rooms are spacious and secluded with private viewing decks where guests can relax and observe the herds of zebra, wildebeest and impala as they graze below. The suites have been designed to allow maximum game viewing from every room with large picture windows looking out onto the valley. In addition to a private bathroom, each suite has an outdoor shower so that even while showering, our guests can immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of Nambiti. Showering in view of a herd of antelope or elephant is an unforgettably African experience!
Each suite has a TV with satellite channels where you can catch up with a world that seems very far away!
Presidential/Honeymoon Suite
Tucked away for complete privacy, the presidential/honeymoon suite features a Jacuzzi on the deck which overlooks the valley. In total seclusion, guests can sip champagne as dusk falls over the landscape, lulled by birdsong and the majestic roar of the lions as they emerge to hunt. We make every effort to create a magical atmosphere for our honeymoon couples and will gladly arrange for a private dinner to be served on your own deck.
Family Suite
Our family suite has two separate bedrooms and can sleep a family of four or two couples in spacious comfort. Each bedroom has its own entrance onto the viewing deck.
Single Suites
Our single suites have one large bedroom in addition to a lounge area and are perfect for couples. Families of four can be accommodated as each suite has two pull out single beds in the main bedroom.
Facilities
No effort is spared to make your stay at Umzolozolo an unforgettable experience.
Personal Tracker and Guide
When you arrive at Umzolozolo you will be introduced to your personal tracker and guide. He will be available to you during your stay and will escort you on twice daily game drives in an open topped 4x4 or on walks, depending on your preference. If you have a particular interest in any species, he will make it his personal mission to find it and share his in depth knowledge of African wildlife with you.
Cuisine
Our chef conjures up culinary masterpieces to delight the palate. Guests are often given the chance to sample different kinds of game as well as the more traditional dishes.
Four meals per day are served at Umzolozolo. The first is a pre morning drive snack which consists of coffee, tea and juice served with cereal and our own home made scones.
On your return you will find an assortment of cold meats, cheese, fruit, cereal and freshly baked rolls laid out on the deck with a full English breakfast cooked to order.
Lunch is served buffet style and guests can choose to eat in the dining room or on the viewing deck where the sparkling pool beckons for an afternoon swim.
The main event is dinner, served after the evening game drive. The beat of the African drum beckons guests to join us in the lounge for an aperitif before sitting down to a sumptuous meal complete with fine South African wines. If you are so inclined, cognac and cigars or your favourite liqueur will be offered following the dessert course.
Activities
Game drives
Our morning and evening game drives offer guests unparalleled game viewing opportunities in open topped Land Rovers. Our guides have an intimate knowledge of the area and the habits of the animals which ensures a rewarding experience. As trained conservationists, your guide will provide a fascinating insight into animal behaviour and habitat. On your drive, you will witness the incredible biodiversity of the area which includes savannah grasslands and thornveld as well as two magnificent waterfalls which flow into the meandering Sundays river.
Game Walks
Nothing beats the thrill of tracking wild animals on foot with an experienced guide. Game walks really immerse you into the sights, smells and sounds of the African bushveld. At a more leisurely pace, your guide will point out interesting flora, birds, insects and smaller mammals as well as the larger species.
Birdwatching
With almost 200 species of birds, the Nambiti Conservancy is a bird lover's paradise.
Fishing
Compete with the Fish Eagles and Kingfishers for a catch in the Sundays river or any of our well stocked dams. Fishing at Nambiti is an idyllic way to spend an afternoon.
Battlefields
The Nambiti Conservancy is situated in the heart of Battlefields country where the Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer wars were fought centuries ago. A tour with a battlefield historian recreates those turbulent times with such skill that one can almost hear the troops and sense the fear and trepidation. Even non historians become enthralled by the drama of the scenes unfolding before them in the very hills where these decisive battles took place.
Drakensberg Mountains
Umzolozolo is a mere 45 minutes from the spectacular Drakensberg Mountains and one of South Africa's top golf courses. After your breakfast at Umzolozolo we can arrange for you to be driven to Champagne Sports Resort for a leisurely round of golf and still have you back at Umzolozolo for the afternoon game drive activities.
Midlands Meander
At the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains, is an 80km meandering route, stretching back to Pietermaritzburg. This is the Midlands Meander, a picturesque trail which takes in more than 160 places to shop, eat and enjoy life. The Meander was started many years ago by local artists and craftspeople who gathered together to open their studios and galleries to the public. It has since grown into an eclectic collection of studios, craft shops, country hotels, restaurants and farm stalls, selling everything from the finest pottery, art and leather goods to home made cheeses and preserves. If you are sick of mass produced goods dispensed out of concrete malls, then this is the place for you. |
