Mantuma Camp at Mkuze Game Reserve in northern Zululand offers visitors a choice of self catering accommodation – either in the form of en-suite safari tents or shared ablution chalets. Established in 1912, the reserve offers 40 000 hectares of protected wildlife area and is incorporated into the iSimangaliso World Heritage Park. Mkhuze Game Reserve is ideally placed, approximately 340km from Durban and 480km from Johannesburg, also offering easy access to Swaziland and Mozambique.

We are only a booking service to secure accommodation at a number of the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife park accommodation venues. We are in no way responsible for the condition of the facilities, which due to severe budgetry cuts from our Provincial Government, has resulted in a lack of general maintenance over the years, with many of the accommodation facilities severely jeopardised and in need of urgent repair or closure. 
The Park authorities are well aware of this inability to carry out basic necessary maintenance and are endevouring to source the necessary funds which to date have not become available. Far and Wild Safaris has no control over the allocation of units and their condition. Should you choose to visit these venues and subsequently find fault with the accommodation and or service, we are only able to forward your comments to the Park authorities. There is no compensation for this status quo should it not meet your expectation. Please contact ourselves should you require further clarification.

uMkhuze Game Reserve Accommodation
Mantuma Camp offers visitors a choice of self catering accommodation. There are en-suite Safari Tents, 2, 4 and 6 sleeper Cottages and Chalets offering visitors their own open plan kitchen and bathrooms or 2 bed Rest Huts which make use of communal bathroom and kitchen facilities.
Units are serviced daily, but visitors are required to do their own cooking and washing up. No plug points for electric razors are available.

The 2 bed Chalets offer one bedroom, en-suite bathroom facilities (with bath tub) a table and chairs and a couch.
The 4 bed Chalets offer two bedrooms with 4 single beds, one bathroom (with bath tub), a lounge, dining room and kitchen, stove and family fridge. Both the 2 & 4 bed chalets have mosquito nets, DSTV, ceiling fans and plug points.

The 2 bed Safari Tents offer one bedroom, bathroom facilities (with toilet and shower), two plate stove and a family fridge.
The 4 bed Safari Tents offer two bedrooms with 2 single beds in each, bathroom facilities (with toilet and shower), a family stove and fridge. The tented units have mosquito nets, portable fans and plug points.

The 6 bed Cottage is wheelchair friendly, comprises 3 bedrooms, a lounge, dining room, two bathrooms (bath tub and shower) and separate toilet and a family size kitchen. There is mosquito nets, DSTV, ceiling fans, a bar area, microwave and plug points

The 2 bed Rest Huts offer one room with 2 beds, a bar fridge and a dining table. The Rest Huts have communal kitchen facilities with microwave and cooking utensils as well as communal ablutions. The units have mosquito nets, DSTV, ceiling fans and plug points

Mosquito nets are provided in each accommodation unit, but guests are advised to take malaria precautions before, during and after their visit. None of the accommodation complexes at Mantuma are fully fenced or completely game proof. Guests are requested no to walk beyond the vicinity of their chalet or tented unit after unset.

An entrance fee is payable at the gate and guests are required to bring their own food and beverages. There is a small take away outlet open during office hours. No Pets are permitted and no firewood may be collected in the reserve. The water is drinkable and has been chlorinated but is quite salty and visitors may prefer to bring their own drinking water or purchase from the camp shop which sells basic food stuffs and a small selection of curios. There is a swimming pool which guests can use at the main camp. Units are serviced daily but guests are required to do their own cooking and washing up. Fuel can be purchased at the camp.

Mkuze Game Reserve offers 100km of tourist roads for guests to enjoy, including picnic sites overlooking Nsumo Pan and various hides for watching bird and animal life unobserved.

Mkuze Game Reserve is renowned as a bird watchers paradise, boasting more than 420 different recorded bird species. The reserve benefits from a great diversity of natural habitats, ranging from the Lebombo mountains in the east to swamps, a variety of woodlands and riverine forest as well as acacia savanna and a rare type of sand forest.

The diversity at Mkuze Game Reserve offers plentiful game viewing opportunities combined with some of the best bird watching in the province.
