The Pongola Game Reserve was first proclaimed in 1894 and is the second oldest reserve in the world. It is a sanctuary to a large variety of wildlife, including giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, impala, hyaena, buffalo, rhino and leopard. Exactly 100 years ago after the last sighting of elephant in the Pongola area, two breeding herds were reintroduced.

Birdlife is prolific due to the diversity of habitats, with in excess of 350 species recorded.

Pongola Game Reserve is a co-operative conservation project between private landowners, tribal communities and government conservation services, and aims to form the heart of a large ecological and socio-economically viable "Big Five" reserve. Allied to this quest the "Space for Elephant" Foundation has been formed to realise the goal of a biosphere large enough to viably sustain an elephant population of a thousand elephants and allow the re-establishment of the ancient elephant migration routes.

LODGE

White Elephant Bush Camp will now be available only as a private camp for exclusive hire. Min 8 persons. This move away from catered lodge accommodation at Bush Camp is part of White Elephants strategic plan to accommodate the growing trend in exclusive hired bush retreats.

Bush Camp, with its seven spacious, en-suite, thatched chalets (including a family unit that sleeps 4), enormous palapa (thatched living & dining area), open-plan kitchen and poolside bar, provides a beautiful laid-back bush sett ing; perfect for private gatherings or getaways for family and friends.

With a personal field guide and camp attendant on hand, and the entire camp for your sole use, you get to arrange your bush itinery to cater for your exclusive needs.

Tranquil views of the Lebombo Mountains across the waters of Lake Jozini, magical evening skies, a variety of game& fishing activities and total privacy will ensure that your stay at Bush Camp is a truly special, exclusive experi ence.
